The aim of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge of materials and biomaterials, particularly polymeric ones, with a focus on sustainability and fields of use. The main characteristics of these materials will be presented, with particular emphasis on viscoelasticity, hydrogels, and selected applications in medical devices.
This course aims to highlight the properties of biomaterials and provide students with the ability to:
-
Understand the principles of manufacturing technologies;
-
Comprehend the fundamentals of viscoelasticity;
-
Identify the most suitable biomaterial(s) for specific applications;
-
Understand methods for both bulk and surface characterization of biomaterials.
The course includes lectures, lab experiences and seminars on selected topics.
